playing in a realm between being naked & clothed

I seek to create playfully considered garments that I hope become treasured objects to live with ~ friends for years to come!

The textile works emerge from my own love of symbolic objects & exploration into the materials & making processes which have dug deep roots into the human tradition of wearing clothes & adorning the body.
I’m drawn to the tactile & emotional languages that we speak through garments, the relationships & stories that get worn into their form & what emerges through these long processes of making them, living with them & their transient life cycles.

My intention is to create objects that embrace, move & adapt with our shifting bodies & styles over the years. I find that tailoring the garments to each body whatever our gender & shape offers a way to reflect on what shapes do we feel good in . what silhouettes do we want to express?

oB garments are all made in house in my small studio workshop in the backwaters of Derbyshire using found tools & repurposed old sewing machines. Pieces are slowly hand worked with much care & focus to their feel & finish.
I make garments ‘the slow way’ incorporating more labour intensive historical garment making techniques which add to their longevity & I hope in a small way preserves some of these less circulated skills.
I handpick natural materials that offer a story to tell, whether reclaimed antique textiles found on carboots, from small batch weavers, from factory remnants of designers or cloths which support a certain niche method of production.

I started the oB project back in 2013 out of a leap of faith whilst living in Cornwall, inspired by regular visits to Men-an-tol.
Since then I have moved from place to place, being shaped by people, place & how my garment making practice wanted to emerge at that time.
